The distance between where you are and where you’re capable of being is rarely a resource problem.

It is a perception problem.

on perception:

Two fish are swimming through a silted pond.

One fish remarks,

“water’s warm today.”

After a moment,

his companion turns and asks,

“what’s water?”

The things we live inside

are the hardest to see.

SALK is a firm that trades not in data or frameworks or benchmarks, but in perception. We see the structure beneath your structure. The assumptions you’ve stopped questioning because they’ve been true long enough to feel like walls without windows. You don’t partner with us to validate what you already believe. You partner with us because what you already believe may be precisely the problem.

Our work is simple, because the truth often is. We listen — not for what you tell us, but for what the organization reveals without meaning to. We identify — not the symptoms you’ve already named, but the underlying architecture producing them. And we recommend — not a menu of options designed to protect our relationship with you, but a single, honest path forward, whatever that path requires. You will receive a complete accounting of what we discovered and how we arrived at it. No hedging. No theater.

I should start off by telling you that I have a visceral reaction to generic PowerPoint, stock photos, corporate jargon, corporate theater and I liked LinkedIn a hell of a lot more before it became Facebook. I recognize that’s an auspicious start to my introduction, like serving ghost peppers as an amuse-bouche, but it’s only fair that you know who I am.

You see, most minds are triage machines. They discard. They file. They say ‘this detail is irrelevant’ before they’ve earned the right to call it so. My particular affliction — and there are days I call it that — is an inability to discard. Everything stays lit.

YOU

I am, by nature, the sum of my experiences. The sum of my parts. A product of a network and their network and experiences. Everything at its root is a system of human dynamics and interconnectedness. Connections simply are. They exist whether or not anyone perceives them. I merely… refuse to look away. Where some see two unrelated facts, I feel the tension between them — like a chord that hasn’t resolved. It itches at me until I find the note that makes it whole.

I’ve spent more than twenty years inside arguably the most highly regulated industry in the world. The last ten at the frontier of radiopharmaceuticals— a space so new that the commercial and strategic infrastructure didn’t exist when we arrived, so we built it. When you spend a decade solving problems that have no precedent, pattern recognition stops being a skill. It becomes a reflex.

on getting started:

Let’s talk. Not about work — about whatever subject genuinely occupies your thinking right now. A book. A movie. A problem. An idea. An industry you’ve been watching. Give me a heads up on the topic when you book. Thirty minutes. No agenda. Maybe we’ll learn something new while we’re at it.

We don’t share much DNA with the big consulting firms. We don’t aggregate data. We take on three to five clients a year because we want to dedicate entirely — to feel the weight and intensity of the work.

Our goal isn't to change your company. Our goal is to change the way you see within it. Average isn’t a floor. It’s a ceiling. And it will hold you if you let it.
